    Engelberg is a popular tourist spot that offers its local buses free of charge. That was a nice surprise when I got on the bus at Restaurant Wasserfall to go to Engelberg station.

6時間がかかる長めのツアーだが、晴れている日にゆっくり峠を登り、景色を味わえながらエンゲルベルグまで歩ける心を静めるコースだ。8月31日が晴れている日に見えたが、歩きの最後の一時間に雨に降られた。「晴れ時々曇り」の天気予報だったのに！いつも軽い折りたたみ傘（100g）を持って行くから、大丈夫だった。
スーレネン峠への道は青銅器時代から使用されているらしい。峠に登る最中に紀元前8～5 世紀に建てられた先史時代の開拓地がある。私にとって岩畳にしか見えなっったが、場所の歴史についてのサインがあったから分かった。昔の人の魂が感じるようだった。

6 hours make this a longish kind of hike, but on a sunny day you can take your time, climb up to the pass slowly and enjoy the flowers and imposing mountain faces. From the pass it's a steady and long descent to Engelberg, through a waterfall-rich valley. Even though the weather report for August 31 said "sunny, sometimes cloudy" I got rained on pretty hard during the last hour. I always carry an umbrella with me (something most hikers sneer at, but guess who was laughing right then, huh?) and came through drier than most of the people I encountered on the trail. Engelberg is touristy and the closer I got to the destination, the more people I met.
On the way up to Surenenpass I noticed a rock pile and an information board that explained that the path up to pass had been used since the Bronze Age and that the rock pile was the ruins of a prehistoric dwelling (8th-5th century BC). It's nice to feel some history during a hike.
